Like Bud, these cans don’t have a best before date. I’m not sure what would happen to it if it did go beyond the best before date if it had one though. I’m sure a brand new Natural Light would have as much hop character as a Natural Light from 5 years ago. Cans are lined with plastic these days, so I don’t think the metal would degrade.
Technically, this can could last forever. When the nuclear holocaust comes, the only things to survive will be cockroaches and cans of Natural Light.
Look: Pale yellow coloured beer. Like a midday urine sample. Not much head and what little there was had no retention. No lacing.
Aroma: Pear drops: sharp, slight sourness and miscellaneous fruit sweetness. Light malt.
Taste: Tastes fairly bland when it first gets onto the palate with a small hint of hop spice. Main flavours of this beer are light biscuit malt and water.
Mouthfeel: Fizzy lager, really thin and watery. More like carbonated water than beer.
Overall: Pretty dull, watery lager with no real redeeming qualities. I mainly drank this beer to put it on that stupid Facebook list of beers to try (I’m on 57 now!) but it’s not something I’ll be buying again unless it’s very cheap on a very hot day./5
Which is shitter, US domestic or Low ABV Malt Liquor: This review gets a unique post script as I happen to have some Hurricane Malt Liquor knocking around to taste it beside. This is standard 5.9% Hurricane rather than the High Gravity version. Both are canned, both are fresh. Which tastes worse?
The malt liquor does smell more grainy, despite the Natty can mentioning the use of “cereal grains” and so presumably featuring adjunct corn and rice. Both are quite watery. I think the Hurricane does have more of a flat malt finish to it.
It is very very close, but I think the Hurricane actually has a fraction more flavour. Neither really present much alcohol, but perhaps the higher ABV on the hurricane rounds off what little flavour there is.
Overall, I think that the Natty Light is shitter than the Hurricane.
