Bitters Review: House of Angostura - Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Final bitters for the time being… the classic cocktail ingredient that really shouldn’t be drunk in isolation. But I’m pretty daring and I’ve only poured a tiny amount. So here we go.

Looks: Very deep red colour, but translucent. It’s such a concentrated colour that it’s almost as dark as soy sauce. It that leaves big, coloured legs.

Aroma: Not as sharply fragrant as the Underberg  but it has still got a lot of cloves, orange and mint.

Taste: Oh dear, this is not good. It starts out ok. Sharp and spicey with cloves, but then it turns into soap and the soap perfume flavours just grow and grow. Very unpleasant.

Mouthfeel: Syrupy and warm. That soapiness is horrid.

Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Overall: Yup, amazingly gross. I think it might even be worse than Malort. Flickr needs an Angostura Face group. Safe to say, I won’t be drinking it neat ever again. I’ll save it for my Old Fashioned. 0/5
